Senior Leadership Team

Ms M Lowney - Headteacher

I joined the teaching profession as an English teacher, keen to improve the outcomes of young people.  I moved swiftly into a Head of Year role, as I felt a passion for supporting the holistic growth of students.  I led my year group to being in the top 5% nationally for progress in their GCSE year.  During this time I gained an Masters in Education, with a focus on SEN and pastoral care and undertook a National Professional Qualification of Senior Leadership.

I later moved on to becoming a Head of English and transformed the examination outcomes.  On leaving, the English department had achieved 90% of students achieving a grade 4 or higher, with a progress 8 score of +0.35.

As an Assistant Headteacher, I oversaw the progress and attainment of the most able students, again transforming the progress and outcomes across the school.  During this time I also oversaw the enrichment programme, which grew to enable all students a broad offering of cultural experiences.

Throughout my following Deputy Headteacher role I returned to my love of pastoral work.  This included successes such as significantly raising attendance, decreasing behaviour incidents and introducing a student leadership team and voice.

I have exceptionally high expectations from all those around me, and do not accept anything less than someone’s best.  Having trained at a junior international level in volleyball, I fully appreciate the need for hard work and perseverance in achieving a goal.

I also appreciate the need for balance and thoroughly enjoy reading, the occasional science-fiction television series and some light sporting competition.

Mr M Laker - SEnior assistant headteacher

After finishing my secondary education locally in the area I completed a Sports Science and Education Studies BA (Hons) degree at the University College of St Mark and St John in Plymouth. Teaching PE had always been my goal and straight after my degree I completed my secondary PGCE at Chichester University before beginning my first post in a large 11-18 mixed secondary comprehensive. While in my first teaching post I became a Deputy Head of Year within the school pastoral system and then moved to supporting the Behaviour Management team. Following my move to St Andrew’s in 2013 I was promoted to the schools Leadership Team where I currently lead on the academic side of school life.

Outside of school I am still a keen rugby player in the local area as well as a South East Federation Referee covering Sussex and Kent.

Mr P Guyan - SEnior assistant headteacher

After completion of my GCSE’s I had the chance to study abroad at the International School of Kuala Lumpur, an amazing opportunity which allowed me to experience different cultures studying in a diverse school.

On returning to the UK I studied Sport, Health and Leisure with Business Management BA (Hons) at Trinity and All Saints, Leeds University. After working in a number of different jobs including Marketing and Outdoor education I completed my PGCE in Physical Education at the University of Brighton, joining St Andrews in 2003 as a NQT.

Following promotion to the school's Senior Leadership Team I completed my NPQSL in 2014 with a school based project focusing on improving outcomes for disadvantaged students.

Mrs M Stewart - Assistant Headteacher

In my role as Assistant Headteacher for Raising Standards Leaders and Post 16 Transition, I work alongside my colleagues to support and develop the learning experience for students in every classroom. I am fortunate to have visited schools across the world, including Kenya, Finland and Panama, to enhance my view of education. I continue in my role as the Head of Maths Faculty and Specialist Leader in Education (Mathematics).

Previous to my SLE role I carried out the role of Advanced Skills Teacher for 8 years and have also spent time as West Sussex County Mathematics Consultant. I hold a First Class Mathematics degree and an MA in Mathematics Education and have been accredited with the National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership, alongside further professional qualifications.

I love to swim, cycle, travel but most of all I love to spend time with my lovely Dad, daughters and grandson.

I was appointed to the senior leadership team in 2019.  My areas of responsibility are Teaching and Learning, Continued Professional Development and Primary Transition.

Since 2005, I have worked in West Sussex secondary schools after graduating from the University of Brighton with a BA (Hons) Physical Education with QTS.  I spent a year working in Brighton and Hove, where I trained teachers and mentors as well as presenting at conferences for teacher training.

Professional achievements include completing the National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership and prior to this, completing my Masters in Education specialising in teacher training.

Throughout my career, I have placed a high value on enrichment opportunities for students.  Most excitingly, this has resulted in leading expeditions to Ghana and countless residential, outdoor and adventurous activities in England.

My personal goal at St Andrew’s is to work strategically with staff, students and parents to ensure our young men are aspirational in their dreams and leave us with as many future choices as possible.  I deeply believe we can achieve this by fully embracing our Christian values.

I joined St Andrew’s in September 2019 and as the Head of Faculty for Technology, overseeing Design & Technology, Food Technology, Business Studies, IT and Computer Science. I firmly believe that a good understanding of technology (and all that it encompasses) is key to helping our students go on to lead safe and successful lives.

I have joined the Senior Leadership Team as part of the Raising Standards Team. In this role I help to evaluate how we can help elevate students to do their very best across the school. I have been privileged to hold a variety of different responsibilities for both department, transition work and different year groups. This offers me a unique insight into how the school can offer the very best of support to our students through our talented team.

I hold a BSc (Hons) in Cybercrime and Security, along with a Masters of Arts in Education from the University of Chichester, where my dissertation focused on the use of incentives to encourage engagement in reading. I have also previously worked with the University of Sussex in helping to deliver specialist sessions for trainee Computer Science teachers.

I love to read (sci-fi/fantasy), travel and learn to cook new recipes.

Mrs C Foot - Business Manager

I have worked in the education and training sector for many years but have been a School Business Manager working in primary, secondary and a special school setting in both Surrey and West Sussex for the past 10 years. I have completed CIPD, AAT and ADSBM qualifications which have underpinned and extended my knowledge of financial management and strategic leadership.

I joined St Andrew’s in September 2017 and in my role as Business Manager I work within the Senior Leadership Team. My areas of responsibility include strategic and operational management of finances and HR, as well as leading and managing business services, premises and catering teams to deliver effective, efficient and compliant use of school resources and facilities. I feel that I am given plenty of scope within my role to make a difference to the education, wellbeing and improvement of the life chances available to the students.
