Deputy Headteacher

Mr M Cordwell -
 Pastoral

My decision to join the teaching profession was born out of my love for Science but seeking a vocation where by everyday was different. First and foremost, I am a Science teacher who loves to deliver in a practical and engaging way to nurture inquisitiveness in our young people whilst helping them reach their academic potential.

As my career progressed, I have had the privilege of working within and leading several Science Teams, several as head of department where by we significantly boosted the progress of all learners. This success led me to take on a teaching learning lead role in a previous school which enabled me to assimilate and share best practice with a wide range of colleagues.

Since 2019 I have firmly been living and breathing all things pastoral! And have spent 5 years at a local school building the team, systems and structures to ensure that every child was known and where possible barriers removed to enable all students to come to school and thrive.

As Pastoral Deputy headteacher at St Andrews, I am highly motivated to ensure that there are no barriers to any young person feeling safe, respected and able to reach their full potential. Ones sense of community plays an important role for anyone feeling connected and I enjoy supporting and leading extra curricular opportunities for our young people, which includes indulging in my passion for skiing!

When not in school I live with my family in Worthing and enjoy the outdoors whether it is riding our bikes on the coastal paths or downs or kitesurfing at various local spots.
